Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck in East Islip, Long Island

Often, dramatic weight loss can leave a person with loose or sagging skin around the abdomen. Pregnancy can also frequently result in the accumulation of excess abdominal skin, as well as the development of weakened or separated abdominal muscles. More commonly known as a "tummy tuck," abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that can dramatically improve a person's body contour.  By removing excess skin and fat concentrated in the abdominal area and by tightening the muscles of the abdomen, Dr. Edward John Bieniewicz can achieve dramatic results. He performs abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at East Islip Surgical in Long Island to give our patients flatter abdomens and slimmer waistlines and help them feel more confident about their bodies. Post-bariatric patients may also choose to combine a tummy tuck with an arm, thigh, butt, or body lift for a complete transformation.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Dr. Bieniewicz performs abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at our accredited surgical suite in Long Island. The details of the tummy tuck procedure vary from patient to patient, because Dr. Bieniewicz tailors the procedure to suit each individual person. Typically, however, he begins the surgery by creating an incision just above the pubic area that grants him access to the underlying muscle, tissue, and fat deposits. He may also need to make a second incision around the navel in order to eliminate any loose skin above it. After removing excess fat and tightening the abdominal muscles, Dr. Bieniewicz smoothes the skin back down, trimming away the surplus, and secures it into place with stitches or sutures. Before bandaging the area, he may insert a small drain to assist in the drainage of fluids during the first few days after surgery.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

After a tummy tuck, patients may experience discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Along with pain medication for managing any discomfort, patients may be given a compression garment to wear for several weeks.  Although taking short walks is usually recommended to encourage healthy blood circulation, it is important that patients refrain from doing anything that requires bending, stretching, or lifting until receiving approval from Dr. Bieniewicz to resume normal activities. Following all of Dr. Bieniewicz's instructions is essential to ensuring a proper recovery.
