Liposuction in Suffolk County, Long Island

By removing excess fat from specific areas, liposuction can sculpt the body, creating a smoother, more attractive body contour. Men and women who eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly yet struggle in vain to eliminate stubborn fat deposits are often suitable candidates for liposuction. At our Suffolk County, Long Island, plastic surgery practice, Dr. Edward John Bieniewicz achieves superior results with liposuction using the tumescent technique. In addition to liposuction, Dr. Bieniewicz excels in performing a variety of quality cosmetic procedures that can significantly improve a person's physique, including tummy tucks, post-bariatric surgery, and gynecomastia treatment.

SmartLipo™

In addition to the tumescent technique of liposuction, Dr. Bieniewicz uses SmartLipo™ technology, a cutting-edge way to perform the liposuction procedure. During the SmartLipo™ procedure, a tiny laser fiber encased in a tube is inserted through a small incision near the treatment area. The tube emits laser energy that safely and effectively dissolves fat deposits, which are then suctioned out of the body. Furthermore, the heat from the laser energy quickly seals the blood vessels, allowing for quicker recovery with less bruising and swelling.

SmartLipo™ patients experience smaller amounts of discomfort, shorter downtimes, and less bruising. The technology also serves to firm the skin around the treatment area, resulting in a smoother, more tightly contoured appearance.

With SmartLipo™ technology, the liposuction procedure becomes accessible to more patients, many of whom may not have been good candidates for conventional liposuction. Dr. Bieniewicz is excited to offer this state-of-the-art liposuction technique to open up to the possibility of a slimmer, tauter look to more patients.

Liposuction Procedure

The type of liposuction that Dr. Bieniewicz performs at our Suffolk County, Long Island, plastic surgery practice has been widely recognized as extremely safe and effective. When using this method, known as the tumescent technique, the doctor injects a special solution into the fat that is to be removed. The solution contains a local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a capillary constrictor (epinephrine) that prevents blood loss during surgery.

After injecting the tumescent solution, the doctor makes a small incision into which he inserts a long, thin metal tube called a cannula. The cannula loosens the fat, which is then suctioned out of the body. Once the procedure is complete, the doctor bandages the area. He may also insert a small drain to allow proper drainage of excess fluids.

Liposuction Recovery

After liposuction, swelling and fluid retention are common side effects. Once they subside, however, the patient's new body contour gradually begins to appear. After surgery, patients may be fitted with a compression garment, which they should wear to help control swelling and aid the skin in conforming to the body's new contour. The final outcome – a more smoothly sculpted physique – can be permanent if maintained with proper diet and exercise.
