Whether a woman is interested in subtle enhancement or spectacular improvement, the plastic surgeon she selects to perform her breast augmentation must have extensive experience, superior medical expertise, and an acute understanding of proportion and balance. Dr. Edward John Bieniewicz consistently produces beautiful, natural-looking results at our East Islip, Long Island, practice with breast augmentation. Depending on the individual patient's needs, he may suggest that she combine breast augmentation with a breast lift to enhance the size and shape of her breasts.
Dr. Bieniewicz performs breast augmentation in our state-of-the-art surgical suite at East Islip Surgical in Long Island. He begins the breast augmentation procedure by making an incision in the crease under the breast. This incision, known as an inframammary incision, allows the surgeon to place the implants either above or below the chest muscle. It also affords the surgeon the maximum amount of control when positioning the implants.
After the incision has been made, Dr. Bieniewicz creates a pocket into which he inserts the saline or silicone implant. After carefully positioning the implants to achieve balance and symmetry, he then closes the incisions and bandages the area.
The most important thing to decide when selecting implants is the type of material they are to be filled with. Patients have two choices in this respect:
Silicone implants are preferred by some patients because of their soft, natural feel. After four years of clinical trials, silicone implants were approved by the FDA for women 22 years of age or older.
Saline implants are filled with a saline solution once they are inserted into the breast. Inserting saline implants typically involves a smaller incision than is required for the insertion of most silicone implants.
After breast augmentation, swelling and bruising are common. Patients also may experience discomfort. This can be managed effectively with pain medication provided by Dr. Bieniewicz. Although patients typically return to work within a week, activities involving lifting or straining should be avoided for a while. During the healing process, swelling and bruising will subside. To facilitate the healing process, a surgical bra should be worn for the first few weeks.
Dr. Bieniewicz has helped many women obtain natural-looking, voluptuous curves. Schedule a free consultation with Dr. Bieniewicz at our cosmetic surgery practice in East Islip, Long Island, to find out whether breast augmentation is right for you.
