A facelift is a cosmetic produce that provides the face with a more youthful appearance by reducing or removing the signs of wrinkles and sagging skin. The facelift, or rhytidectomy, works by removing excess fatty deposits, repairing damaged facial muscles and tightening skin that has lost some of its elasticity.

There are a number of different techniques that can be used during a facelift procedure, as the type of treatment required will vary greatly from patient to patient. Some facelift treatments are very extensive, while others may be very minor and require very little surgical procedure at all. The more in-depth the treatment is, the more invasive the actual surgery will be, which will drastically alter factors such as cost of treatment, recovery time, etc.

The ideal candidate for a facelift treatment is a patient that is in relatively good physical health with no severe medical disorders like high blood pressure, diabetes or blood clotting disorders which can cause severe complications in surgery. Furthermore, candidates for facelift procedures must have reasonable expectations for the outcome of the surgery and fully understand that cosmetic surgery can only go so far in changing or improving their appearance.

Depending on the extent of the facelift you will be receiving, your cosmetic surgery can last anywhere from one to seven hours. If you are having multiple procedures performed at one time, duration of the surgery will be much longer than just a single procedure. You may be placed under general or local anesthesia, again dependent upon your specific type of procedure, and the methods of treatment used will be fully decided upon during the consultations you have with your cosmetic surgeon prior to treatment.

Recovery from a facelift surgery will vary from patient to patient and will partially depend upon how extensive your surgery was. You will typically be placed on bed rest for the first few days following surgery, and instructed to perform only minor tasks during the first few weeks. It may take several weeks to several months for you to make a full recovery from your cosmetic treatment.
